Will a Vegan Diet Help Me Lose Weight?

Yes, but weight loss isn’t automatic either

A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains can help you lose weight.

Food is just one factor that affects weight loss, however. Physical activity, genetics, and hormones play a part too.

We stand for ‘Body Mass Index’ and is a standardized measure based on height and weight.

Though flawed, BMI can be useful for assessing weight. Higher levels come with increased risks of chronic diseases. In general, vegans tend to have lower BMI levels than non-vegans, but not always. No diet creates only one kind of body.

Isn’t a vegan diet automatically healthy? Not quite.

Does a vegan diet have its share of junk food? Certainly!” Weight loss isn’t automatic either. “Any diet with excessive calories from junk rather than whole foods makes weight loss a challenge.” But a well-planned vegan diet can help you shed a few pounds.

Important Vegan Habits

The healthiest vegans practice habits that really make them thrive

Keep learning

Remember that going vegan is a learning curve. To live as a vegan in a non-vegan world takes both courage and curiosity. Veganism has been around since 1944, but it’s still a relatively new concept to many people. It’s important you allow yourself time to learn about the various strands of veganism – and remember to pat yourself on the back along the way for the progress you've made.

Get serious about preparation.

Smart vegans take food prep seriously. This means having a well-stocked kitchen—ample fruits, vegetables, grains, beans, and whatever else makes you feel your best—so you don’t have to worry about what to eat when hunger sets in.

Stay active.

The healthiest people in the world know the importance of exercise and movement. Whether you choose to play a sport, run, dance, or garden, staying active is a must for optimal health.

How to be a highly successful vegan?

Get out there and find like-minded people.

It can be a lonely journey on your own.

Find a local vegan contact or groups; join a vegan forum; go to vegan fairs, gatherings, camps, festivals, etc.

Getting to know other people socially can make a world of difference.

We’ve always found people super friendly and happy to connect, share experiences, meet up, etc. Although we find most vegan people lovely, like all walks of life you get all sorts, so be discerning.

Don’t be put off if you meet a bunch that you don’t resonate with.

Stick with it and you’ll gravitate to like-minded souls before you know it.
